Description: World War One German engraved trench knife.This rare variation has "STURMBEREIT"lightly engraved in a decorative panel along the flat side of the blade.Translated, this term means "battle ready". This engraving variation is not documented in either Christian Mery's excellent book on German trench knives, or in the German language reference book Deutsche Kampfmesser by Halasz. Full stag grip in excellent condition.Blade shows a small section of old pitting near the tip on one side, as shown. S-shaped guard. Leather fittings are gone from the original metal scabbard which retains its working internal spring.
