Description: An original WW2 US Army map of "GERMAN DEFENCES" at the town of GEILENKIRCHEN on the SIEGFRIED LINE (WESTWALL). It was printed on the 5th September 1944 with up to date aerial intelligence information prepared by the FIRST US ARMY photographic interpretation division (APID). The "GEILENKIRCHEN SALIENT" was targeted by an Allied Offensive known as "OPERATION CLIPPER" in November 1944, so this map gives a good idea of the known defences at the time. The map also features other locations from OPERATION CLIPPER, such as BAUCHEM, TRIPSRATH and the outskirts of PRUMMERN. "DEFENCES" maps often carry a 'Defence Legend' on the back for deciphering the symbols, but this one is absent. I have other 'DEFENCES' maps separately listed with images of the defence legend which could be used for comparison purposes. The map was recently sold as part of a larger collection featuring original Top Secret D-Day maps, some of which related to 'Omaha Beach'. Please see my other WW2 (and WW1) maps, documents, photos etc. (Seller's Ref - FLO)
