Description: An impressive example of a original World War One Imperial German Stormtrooper's Large Cast-Iron Shovel Head as issued to Elite German Infantry in The Trenches of the Western Front in 1917-18 Excavated from German positions at Verdun on the banks of the River Meuse, the Battle of Verdun was the longest in The Great War lasting from February 21st to December 16th 1916 With the shovel head measuring approx 14" in length by 10" across and treated with a rust-inhibitor, these very impressive large shovels were often stripped down and worn under the Stormtrooper's tunics in the form of armour against enemy fire. In a superb restored condition, this is another superb surviving item as located on The German Verdun Sector of the Great War..
