Unfortunately there is not much written about Winchester Sight Hoods in any of the books but when examining an original model rifle we can determine the correct sight hood as used by Winchester for that model rifle. To begin with ALL are 1 inch in length. There are two basic heights of sight hoods supplied by Winchester on their pre 64 and some post 64 firearms. The taller hood fits the models 64, 65, 70, 71, 88, and 100. The shorter hood fits the models 43, 75, 94, and 9422. Except for the height difference both model hoods are exactly the same. THEY SHOULD HAVE A BEVEL ON BOTH ENDS - Front and Back. There was never one made by Winchester that had one or both sides squared (without a bevel). Anyone telling you otherwise is not correct or is purposely trying to mislead you. Original sight hoods have been unavailable for years from any source and so they command a very high price. We make ORIGINAL PATTERN sight hoods for all the models mentioned. They are made on new class A tooling from the original blueprint specifications. We price them at $25 which is less than half of the current cost of a vintage original.
