Description: 1850's William Hall & Son Vintage Parlor Size Guitar Original Brazilian Rosewood Sides And Back Manufactured By Renowned Builder James Ashborn In His Connecticut Factory And Shipped To NY To Be Stamped And Sold By Hall; There is Some Conflicting Production Info, But Best Estimates Are That Ashborn Made Guitars Through The 1860's Comes With The Original Coffin Case, which was redone and lined with felt in 1970’s. Bridge was redone by professional violin Specialist in mid 1970’s when it was also re-fretted ( see his card in photos) Originally had steel strings on it which have been replaced with nylon to preserve neck . Beautiful rich sound ! And fully playable. (I played for many years ) one small area where edge wood is chipped . A like instrument listed in Smithsonian Museum (see photos of it’s description) My family history states that it came from relative who lived at Appomattox at the time of the surrender in Cival war .
