The body is of Melissa Young (Jessica Gunning) who hasn't been seen in more than two years, and isn't registered as missing, with no one even noticing her absence. In his last week on the job before retirement, DI Harper is determined to unravel the mystery and discover the secrets behind the doors of Melissa's neighbours. There are partners Elaine (Indira Varma) and Peggy (Victoria Hamilton) whose successful business and relationship is wrecked by the grim discovery. While Elaine never liked Melissa, Peggy is shocked and upset. But there is a dark secret connecting Elaine to the dead girl. Then there is divorced local newspaper editor Kieron (Steven Mackintosh) and his son Adam (Alexander Arnold). Just what are the personal secrets that Kieron's hiding? To their horror they discover, in the attic, the remains of Melissa Young, a previous tenant, who has been dead for over two years. Joe forbids Liz to go out because she is a kleptomaniac but Michael is surprised to learn that the other tenants assume Joe lives on his own and gets in to see Liz, who is nervous and tells him to leave. Patricia and Adam discover that Kieran has not told them of the other's existence but Patricia is perturbed at the boy's interest in her. Episode #1.3 S1, Ep3 8 Sep. 2013 Vidya investigates when she sees a hooded man fleeing the empty flat after writing Skank on the wall. She contacts Len - whose terminally brother has just died - and they track down a friend of Melissa, who tells them she believes Melissa was having an affair with a married man. This turns out to be Kieran, and Adam was aware of the fact, blaming her for his father's alcoholism. After Michael has persuaded him to have a drink with him Kieran gets violent and tries to take Patricia by force and she leaves him. Elaine goes to great lengths to stop Peggy going whilst Len... Episode #1.4 S1, Ep4 15 Sep. 2013 Len is angry that Melissa's inquest returned an open verdict with no suggestion that she was murdered. He questions Joe, who recalls to himself that he found Melissa's body and stole a necklace which he gave to Liz. Later he confesses to killing her but Len is not convinced, especially when he discovers that Liz has been on the run since her stepfather died in suspicious circumstances. Some months later, the case apparently resolved, Vidya has thrown Michael out for his affair with Liz and is raising her baby with help from Len, who has moved into the building. Kieran...
