Description: Asylum Ephemera Sale 2024-2025 All proceeds to fund ongoing archival preservation As some of you longtime followers know, in 2020 I inherited the Jordan/Ference Collection of Great War Stereography; my previous passion project of documenting abandoned insane asylums has fallen by the wayside. However, I need to fund the archive that I currently curate; in doing so I am selling off most of the asylum ephemera that was left to me by my late AMA (Aunt Mary Anne, who worked at Mayview State Hospital) and which I purchased on auction sites like this. All items are documented to the best of my ability; all are sold as-is so please ask questions first! The shipping prices are firm but combinable; this is due to the time of packaging and walking over a mile to the post office. Please don't buy and complain about shipping. Apparently found in the library of Westborough State Hospital, where it was received on June 21st at 8:15 AM, this article from the NY State Hospital Press at Utica describes some of the earliest experiments on using Benzedrine (the first commercially produced amphetamine) on schizophrenic patients. While the binding is rather worn, and the staples predictably rusty, the pages are remarkably free from foxing; apparently acid-free paper was common for some of these places! The 18 page article details some promising early results while avoiding an overly optimistic approach as many articles on "quick fix" remedies (Metrazol shock, insulin coma, eletroconvulsive therapy, transorbital lobotomy) of the time often did. Numerous diagrams, charts, and studies on different types of behavior modification are found throughout. If this stuff is interesting to you, I'll be listing it regularly until about May of 2025. Please feel free to check my profile and follow me to continue to see interesting and unique asylum and quarantine hospital relics.
