Although they’re perhaps best known for their jeans, they have strong shirting and outerwear lines as well, where they consistently rank near the top of the Japanese “American casual” brands. Iron Heart may be known for their heavy weight fabrics, or Sugar Cane for their often interesting choice of materials, but Warehouse is a quality all-around brand. They don’t advertise and basically let the quality of their clothing speak for itself. Like a lot of the Japanese labels out there, quality is paramount for Warehouse, where all of their stuff is produced old-school, done on vintage looms and mean to evoke 1950s-60s era work and sportswear. Production runs are typically small, with availability limited especially outside of Japan. So what we have here is a piece from their “2nd hand” line. This is one of Warehouse’s more recent collections, where they reproduce vintage graphic tees. The graphics are always cool, basically the sort of thing you would have found in a thrift store maybe 20 or 30 years ago, but done in a super high quality execution. Fabric here is a pleasantly uneven knit cotton done in loopwheeled construction. That is, it is a tubular knit with no side seams. This is a nod to vintage clothing manufacturing, where it was common to produce tubular fits back in the day. Print here references vintage university sportswear, in this case from the City College of New York. In all we have a quality, timeless design that never goes out of style. These shirts are built to last as well and will only get better with wear. Size is labeled a medium and fits true. I measure the chest at 20.5”, shoulders at 18”, and length at 25.5”.
