Moving to Berlin in 1921 he became a member of the international circle of artist whose activities have become legendary. He worked as a director putting together shows acclaimed for their originality and phantasy. It wasn’t until his move to Zurich in 1924when he was appointed teacher of drawing at the Zurich Kunstgewerbeschule, a position he maintained for forty years did he turn to art.He idolized women as enchanted and enchanting flowers and revered them passionately with all his energy. His literary sensibility and his mastery of drawing predestined him to be an illustrator. When he died in 1966 in Zurich several obituaries expressed regret that he had devoted so much of his life to teaching rather than enriching the world with his talent as a divinely gifted illustrator.
