The lamp shades are a hard plastic.PLEASE NOTE: These have recently been removed from their dollhouse where they were plugged in and lights worked. However the electric house has been disassembled and we no longer have the means to verify lights or test functionality. There is museum putty residue on the bottom of each lamp base. Both cords have a tiny kink where they were wrapped around a table corner. These are vintage from the early 1990s, and the lamp shades have a hint of yellowing/aging on the edges, but it can only be seen in very bright light and it is enhanced in the photos for clarification.
