Made in the United States presumably in 1989, this Boyd 3rd Five Year salt cellar miniature hen on nest is a must-have for farm animal enthusiasts and collectors alike. Packaged for safe delivery, this salt cellar is a great gift for anyone who loves vintage and collectible items. This piece has the typical Boyd 3rd Five Year Diamond around a B mark with a line on top and a line on the bottom. This means it was made sometime between 1980-1990. You can find the Alexandrite piece in their catalog listed as number 104 made on 4/26/1989, but it is not the satin/frosted glass version. This is a very hard to find, rare piece that changes to 4 different variations of colors, as you can see in the photos listed. This is not typical of Alexandrite/Neodymium glass, making this an even more unique piece. There is also a color deposit that almost looks like a hair or crack in the glass, which is also photographed. It is a very unique phenomenon that sometimes happens when making glass pieces and is quite fascinating to see! The item is in excellent, used condition showing little to no signs of wear and is I almost mint condition!! Please know that the color deposit is NOT A CRACK! IT IS NOT DAMAGED! It is a rare flaw that happens when mixing the colors to make the item. What happened was the color didn't mix all the way, and left a streak. You can see that it is dark blue in color and almost looks like a hair with two blue dots on it. It also changes color with the item. If you zoom in on it, you can even see that it bleeds a bit as well. Almost like water color does on paper, or marker does when wet. If you are concerned about it, I can provide even more photos of it to verify for you.
