VNTG 1950's Lewellyn JEWEL Tortoiseshell & Clear Lucite Brass Filigree Box Purse

Description: This purse is marked and altho some of the making are faded and worn- I can make out that this was made by Lewellyn JEWEL NYC who introduced this style purse in the early 1950's and it became very popular. It has a faux tortoise shell body with gold plated brass filigree trim around all the edges which surrounds a thick Clear Lucite beveled jewel box type top insert. This purse is in great condition, there are only some light scratches and minor wear to the brass filigree finish. No chips or cracks but the bottom of the purse had deteriorated and was in pieces when I purchased this and has been replaced with clear lucite. The original round feet have been replaced onto the new base. New clear Lucite base is a bit scuffed.. The repair isn't flawless but it is secure and fits with the general theme of the bag making it totally usable and lovely for display as well as use. It closes perfectly with a brass filigree shell like catch in front. The box shape has slightly changed with age so there are slight gaps between the frame and the sides. No vinegar smell or stability issues with the piece as I see it. Measures: 7 1/2" long x 5 /4" deep x 5" high (9 1/2" high including the duo handles). I was only able to find a few examples of the Lewellyn JEWEL purses and none with this rare clear beveled lucite top and all were listed for about 4 x my buy it now price. I take great care in packaging items for shipping but cannot be responsible for damage or loss during transport. If you want postal insurance- please let me know at end of auction and I will send a revised invoice through paypal with the postal fee included. I recommend insurance but leave option up to the buyer. If you choose to not insure your item, do not write me expecting a refund of any kind if it is damaged by the postal service. NO EXCEPTIONS so consider the insurance option carefully. International buyers add $5.00 plus actual shipping costs for handling and paperwork required.
