We will combine shipping for multiple items purchased. Background -Rain Tree Crow is the result of a collaboration between former Japan members David Sylvian and Mick Karn. Sylvian and Karn teamed with keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen, adding guitarists Phil Palmer and Bill Nelson for their self-titled debut. Like a mellower, new age-oriented version of Japan, Rain Tree Crow explores stark soundscapes that sound alternately beautiful and desolate. Although it is a bit too challenging to provide a good introduction to Sylvian and Karn's music, the album remains fascinating for their fans. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine Rain Tree Crow was the last album by the art rock/New Romantic band Japan, and came six years after their break up, in 1989. It has a very different flavour to their earlier offerings, eschewing any commercial sensibilities and instead incorporating a more improvisational sound. Despite the ad hoc nature of the recording and the internal arguments that apparently surrounded it, it is an outstanding piece of work. David Sylvian's soulful lyrics and plaintive voice are used to terrific effect, and the superb musicianship underscores its often desolate but poignant atmosphere. Perhaps for this reason it was released under a different name but in retrospect this was surely a mistake because it has been largely overlooked.
