Description: This is a unique, vintage, single release commemorative mug from Wedgwood. It was produced in the 1960's to commemorate the life of Geoffrey Chaucer (1328-1400), the author of the Canterbury Tales. The oversized mug features a line up of characters from the book including Reeve, Clerk of Oxenford, Miller, Merchant, Man of Law, Physician, 2 Citizens, The Host, Manciple, Monk, Citizen, 3 Priests, Squires, Knight, Chaucer, Cook, Wife of Bath, Parson, Plowman, Franklin, Shipman, Sompnour, Pardoner, Friar, Lady Abbefs, Nun, Yeoman and Squire. They are listed at the bottom circling the mug. The mug itself is a beige or off white color with a pastel pink trim at the top and a pastel blue trim at the bottom. The top reads CHAUCER'S CANTERBURY PILGRIMS". The bottom of the mug reads GEOFFREY CHAUSER (Author of the Canterbury Tales) 1328-1400 Poet-Laureat, in the twelfth year of Richard H. 1389, obtained a grant of an annual allowance of wine. It is marked Wedgwood of ETRURIA & BARLASTON MADE IN ENGLAND as well as Engraved by the Wedgwood Studios. The mug stands approximately 4 3/4 inches tall and has a top opening of 3 3/4 inches wide/long. It easily holds 20 ounces of liquid.
