This is really an antique, very early tool -- here's some history ---1919-12-25 American Machinist lists Boston Tool & Mfg. Co., Boston, Mass., as a provider of Die Making Machines, Filing Machines, and Speed and Test Indicators.The Boston Tool & Manufacturing Co., Inc. was in business by 1918 and formally incorporated in March 1919. Among their first products was a die filing device that could be fit to a drill press or lathe, or could be powered by a motor and used free-standing; however it was powered, it could provide either reciprocating or rotary movement. They also made a wiggler, plus they did general machine shop jobbing and manufactured metal stampings.In 1923 the corporation was dissolved, likely due to non-payment of taxes. But it appears that the business continued anyway: in 1926 it was announced that the Boston Tool & Mfg. Co. was changing its name to the Utility Co. "A change in product has been made, the new line including windshield wipers and license plate frames."
