Description: Vintage TIRSCHENREUTH "Dresden" Pattern #4326 China. Made in Bavaria, Germany. Pattern Description: Multi-colored Dresden Flowers, Embossed, Smooth Edge, Gold Scrolls, Gold Trim. Made in Bavaria, Germany. Discontinued. Company History (although not quoted exactly, credit owed to The Old Stuff website): In 1832, Heinrich Eichhorn requested permission to set up a porcelain factory in Tirschenreuth, Bavaria, Germany. Eichhorn was a manufacturer from Schney near Lichtenfels. His request was initially rejected by authorities of the city Tirschenreuth, but subsequently permission was granted in 1833. Construction of the factory was completed in 1838. In the beginning Eichhorn had to subsidize the firm. In 1846, a second kiln was put into operation. Heinrich Eichhorn died in 1880 and his shares were acquired by Edmund Tittel, Friedrich Muther and August Bauscher. Next year August Bauscher sold his shares to Karl Gotthold Mezger. In 1908, Gotthold Mezger died and his shares were transferred to Johann Schlipphack. Then during World War I the sales markets collapsed, although the company struggled through. In 1926 the director Johannes Schlipphack died. In 1927, the Tirschenreuthth porcelain factory was taken over by another porcelain manufacturer, Lorenz Hutschenreuther. After the WWII, production was began again in September 1945. In 1994 the Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG separated from the Tirschenreuth porcelain factory and at the end of 1995, the Tirschenreuth porcelain factory was closed after more than 150 years. Maker's Marks: This set has a green printed back stamp of the 'Crown-"PT (in a Shield)-Bavaria-Tirschenreuth"' mark that was commonly used after 1903. This mark can even be seen on some wares as late as the 1940's when a second mark indicating "US Zone" was added. Many pieces, such as the plates, also have a red printed mark of "4326-DRESDEN DECORATION-MADE IN BAVARIA". The number 4326 is the designated pattern number. The red mark was likely added by the decorating department of Tirschenreuth, the green mark being for the porcelain blanks. Unfortunately, the marks do not lend themselves to dating the pottery except for a wide range of time. Condition: Very good condition for their age. There are no chips, cracks repairs or crazing. Light wear to the gold trim, with moderate wear on the saucers. Expect light shelf wear and light utensil marks. See photos. The items are all being sold by the piece.
