Description: The Red god. This depiction of Shiva as Nataraja the Hindu Lord of the Dance was cast in a century old family-owned foundry in India. The four-armed, dancing Shiva is encircled by a ring of flames. The design is intended to be contemplated. This depiction is of Shiva the Destroyer. He is the god of destruction, but also the god of rebirth and regeneration. He is believed to bring fertility to his followers. The cobra Serpent King surrounds his neck while the holy river Ganges flows from his matted hair. His headpiece is adorned with a skull. Shiva is shown with three eyes. The third eye is centered on his forehead and is capable of bestowing inward vision but also capable of burning destruction when focused outward. Shiva is shown to be trampling a dwarf who represents ignorance and deception. Elements of the rich symbolism and adornments are polished and engraved to reveal the underlying bright brass metal beneath the red finish of the rest of the casting. His posture, gestures and adornments are all deeply symbolic.Shipping will be problematic due to the size and weight (around 70 pounds). The sculpture measures 34X27X12.
