Description: VINTAGE RUSTIC IRON TIE SPIKE FROM THE OLD MKT (Missouri, Kansas and Texas) / KATY TRAIL RAILROAD TRAIN TRACKS. Railroad spikes measure approx. 6-3/8 inches long, are old and have rust as would be expected from an old used railroad spike. I have sandblast etched the letters into the spike using aluminum oxide sandblast media and then painted the etched letters to avoid rusting. The spikes were aquired from a retired employee of the railroad at the time that the railroad dismantled the tracks that are now used as the historic Katy Trail path that people ride bikes, walk, jog and hike across the state of Missouri on. I like the rustic natural patina of the spikes and have not used any type of clear coat on them, but you may choose to do so, to avoid any further rusting over time due to exposure to moisture. Take this opportunity to own a piece of railroad history.
