Description: This is a well done and emotionally stirring Vintage Old Mexican Latin Modern Impressionist Oil Painting on Masonite, by well-known Mexico City, Mexico midcentury painter, Jorge Leguizamo (b. 1931.) This artwork depicts two expressive figures, a seated man at a table and a standing woman holding a bowl. This piece likely depicts a domestic scene of a husband and wife. The man stares listlessly upward and away from the woman's gaze, with a forlorn and sorrowful expression. The woman's features reflect sympathy or pity, and she stands by her husband with a bowl, possibly filled with albondigas soup or posole. On the small wooden table is a bottle of wine or Tequila / Mezcal. Signed, dated and annotated in the lower right corner: "J. Leguizamo '63...MX." Approximately 21 3/4 x 26 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 15 x 19 3/4 inches. Very good condition for age, with a few tiny scuffs to the painted surface, and moderate edge wear and material loss to the lower right corner of the original period wooden frame (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. This is by far the most interesting and dynamic artwork by Leguizamo to ever be offered for sale.
