Description: O-scale Steam Locomotive: No idea who the maker is, based on construction this is likely from the 1930s, 1940s or 1950s. A mid-sized 2-6-6-2 Mallet articulated, has Alco Schenectady builders plate details but I have not matched to a prototype photo yet, similar to some Norfolk & Western, similar to some Denver & Rio Grande Western prototypes, but the short tender is not like either. I got this from someone disposing of an estate, who apparently had no idea nor cared what they had here, as it was loose in a box with other engines and bounced around plus they priced these with the locos separate from the tenders even though the tenders had numbers to show which engines they went with. I just bought all of it and sorted it out myself. So there's some issues, scratches and chips, bent or missing detail parts. I suspect this has been a shelf display for a very long time; it would need new wiring to run as the old cloth insulated wire is in poor shape. This has a large motor in the firebox area, nearly filling it, and both sets of drivers are powered. I did try testing it with just a little train set power pack but I got no action. It could easily be AC though given the age. The biggest issue is it's missing one wheel on the lead truck, it may be easier to track down a pair of similar spoked wheels and replace both than to find one alone. Why is there no shipping? I simply do not have the materials on hand to try to pack this properly for a trip through the FedEx or USPS system without damage. It's a good 10+ lbs and I would probably have to carve a foam cradle for it and maybe even make a crate to ship it in. Figuring out where it should be supported would take a little time and experimentation. So for now figure to pick it up within one mile from the I-81/I-90 highway interchange, or you can meet me at one of the train shows I set up at; upcoming for fall 2022 are Binghamton, Buffalo, Albany and Rochester. What's it worth? No idea. I'd like to find out just when/who made this as much as anything. So I put a high price on it. Note I only take in person payments for pickup items.
