Description: This PAIR of initial "T" bridle rosettes is in SUPERB condition for their age. They are in all original condition - not converted to pins or jewelry. They are mounted on round brass back plates, to which D-ring slots are attached. They are sound and sturdy enough to use, if desired. Each has a bright mirror back behind a black letter. The T's appear to "float" above the gleaming silver backing. SIZE is approximately 1-1/2 inches across .The glass dome is 1/4 inch thick and has a FLAT top, the top of the dome is NOT ROUNDED. CONDITION: Striking - There is NO cloudiness in the glass and NO surface scratches or cloudiness. There is an occasional spot on the mirror back. The brass backs are tightly secured to the glass. There is some slight discoloration of the brass metal from age and storage. (We do not clean or polish our metal objects.) Bridle rosettes have been used for centuries to help prevent cheek pieces of horse or pony bridles from slipping out of place. They are positioned one on each side of the head, at the end of the browband that goes across the top of the animal's face. In the late 1800s they became fashionable harness decorations and were noticed by ladies who began to have them converted and then made into jewelry. In their earliest uses they were thought to ward away evil spirits. This would be a very nice find especially for a collector searching for alphabet letter decorations.
