Description: Vintage Large Cast Iron Bronze Brass Port Hole Ship Window 16” USS WASP CV/ CVA/CVS -18 is in good used condition. The USS WASP CV/ CVA/CVS -18 was decommissioned in 1972 and scrapped. My Dad served on the USS WASP from 1954-1958 He was also on the WASP some time in the 60’s for his 2 weeks active duty. Not sure on the dates I was just a wee kid then. This porthole was a Christmas gift from his sister after the ship was scrapped. Or as my Dad would say made into razor blades. She was an Antique dealer in NJ. Note was taped to glass. Item has been stored in the attic. Note is yellowed from age. Has chew marks from a rodent. A little moisture damage from storage. Overall width is 16” The diameter is 14” (facing ocean side) The diameter is 13” ( inside ship side) The glass has wear scratches and scuffs from use. (Both sides of glass) There is paint on the bronze ( gray and white) Rubber seal on ocean side of porthole is dry-rotted has some rubbery feel to it still even though it cracked and broken in spots. (see images) Bronze is intact no broken pieces or cracks to the bronze. This thing weighs 19 lbs as is. Strictly a collectors item. This is a piece of Naval history from a glorious ship that served in three wars WWII, Korea and Vietnam and a number of missions for NASA Gemini program.
