Description: Vintage Bybee Pottery Pitcher in the color Kentucky Blue. This piece is an abstract of Bybee's Fruit Pitcher--you can barely seethe raised areas that are supposed to be their fruit pattern. Still a nicedisplay piece. Completely handmade, glazed and fired by the artisans at Bybee Pottery. If you are familiar with Bybee Pottery, then you know the characteristicsof this crude, handmade pottery --is it's trademark! All the pieces typically have color variations, ripples, glaze drips, air bubbles, glaze skips and rubs along with an unglazed, rough bottom. Selling exactly as pictured. Bybee Pottery was the oldest pottery west of the Allegheny Mountains. Founded in Bybee Kentucky in1809 by Webster Cornelison, the business sold a wide variety of pottery pieces and encouraged customers to tour the building and watch the artisan potters hand forming, throwing, molding and glazing all the items. The pottery was able to mine all the clay they used within a short radius of their building. The Bybee Pottery thrived and survived through six generations of the Cornelison family and asthe new generation found new interests, production and sales dwindled.
