Description: Description A lovely original 1950’s cocktail dress in a combination of lilac lace and taffeta ! The style typifies the 50’s - with a form fitting bodice and A line flared skirt. No maker's label remains and it is possible this dress was custom designed by a seamstress using a pattern. No fabric contents label but this is a synthetic blend. What makes this dress so rare is its size. I have been collecting vintage for decades and have only come across a handful of dresses in this size range.Note the details on this striking dress – V neckline with attractive accordion pleated detail, tiny lace cap sleeves, and the A line flared skirt, perfect for dancing. There are two layers to the skirt – a lilac satin acetate lining, topped with lace overlay. The dress is photographed using a small crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included. The dress closes down the side with a hidden metal zipper. The entire dress is lined in satin acetate. No vintage size label, so please see measurements below for proper fit. This is an extremely rare XL size plus size which would best fit a modern US size 16 or 18. No exterior stains and underarms are clean. I did not find any obvious breaks to the lace overlay. Only a few minor flaws to note - typical discoloration of the skirt lining, which was originally a matching lilac and has since oxidized over the decades to a mottled pink and purple. The result is a rather pleasing periwinkle effect shining through the lace overlay. Also the right side of the skirt hemline appears to be slightly shorter than the left, which could be easily corrected by re-hemming if desired.See my other listings for more 50’s party/prom dresses, including several others in chiffon.
