Description: “Vicks Plant” Plectranthus Tomentosa —Grow Your Own Medicine with these 5 at least 4-6" long ea ORGANICALLY GROWN CUTTINGS--NO PESTICIDES EVER; One of the most incredible plants I’ve ever grown for SO MANY MANY reasons!! Vicks Plant (Plectranthus tomentosa) (also known as Succulent Coleus): is a member of the mint family and has somewhat thin (but still succulent!) leaves. Is a wonderful herb to add to your 'rare and unusual' collection! Vick's plant is a hard to find plant that’s actually an herb. It is a tender perennial with a nice spreading habit. Compact with a cascading growth habit, it is a great choice for hanging baskets and containers because left untrimmed it creates long “arms” full of these beautifully scented leaves— which are the bomb! The oval leaves are rounded and fleshy, with a gentle scalloped edge that’s so pretty and they give off a light and aromatic menthol/minty, camphor type fragrance some think like Vick's Vapor Rub when the leaves are rubbed or crushed. I just think it’s so pleasant, not heavy or cloying —just minty. Beautiful but not overpowering This strong menthol scent is why it’s so worth growing if having a natural way to control pests—it does a good job at repelling mosquitoes and other nasty pests! (Helps my tomatoes with aphids) This succulent herb is a great lesser known plant for attracting bees and butterflies when it flowers! Easy to propagate, it blooms in early spring and early fall with white to light purple spike flowers! The unique delicate flowers grow on long and thin stems. The plant blooms twice a year. Once in the early spring and later in the cooler days of the fall. But I add liquid bloom to water & they flower more often in my south Florida garden year round. Because of its fleshy leaves, be careful not to over water. I add some sand to either planting hole in garden or mix potting mix with sand to make a well draining mix. Beautiful Vick’s Plant, does wonderfully as an indoor plant, out in a garden or as a container plant. When cut it can in fact, be used for the same purpose as its nickname namesake: Vicks Vapor-rub. The leaves can be steeped in boiling water to vapourize the characteristic oils which are then inhaled, helping to clear nasal and respiratory passages. The leaves can also be applied as a poultice, or prepared in petroleum jelly-based ointments. You will receive 5 healthy cuttings. The cuttings are: bare root with bottom leaves already removed to expose beautiful nodes, then placed in wet medium to sprout roots from nodes. When they arrive —just rinse the stems under tepid water—then u can pop them in a glass of room temp water up to last stripped node, do not cover leaves with water OR pot them immediately in very wet soil. Keep soil very moist until u see new growth or change water every 2 days until roots form, then transfer to soil. A few weeks later once they show new growth they can be transplanted where u want them. It is a wonderful easy care plant that I grow both in garden & in pots so they are handy. They also —for me help deter some pests. I grow only organically & use NO PESTICIDES so these are very useful companion when planted WITH (in same pot) plants like tomatoes that are susceptible to pests. For some reason the scent permeates the companion plant and pests stay away from both! DO NOT GROWN INDOORS WHERE YOUR CAT OR DOG CAN EAT IT. It is not winter hardy. Thus, you need to transfer the plant indoors in winter if you don’t live in a mild winter zone. Care: You'll want a well-draining soil for your Vicks plant because it prefers succulent-like conditions. I mixed together 1 part peat moss with 1 part succulent soil mix. I also have used 2/3 regular potting mix with 1/3 sand. Either works fine. Water it well when dry and then let it drain. Unless u r in a hot climate like me. In summer if it doesn’t rain I do water daily. In the winter months, you can water it even less. But watering depends on your soil mix, where it’s placed & how much sun it gets. As a gardener I use information as a GUIDE but I use my plant as the true barometer. If it wilts, it needs water. I am not a prof nursery. Just a passionate gardener (and raise butterflies) so strictly organic. I care & send only THE BEST healthy of anything I grow. I send what I’d be happy to get. NEVER ANYTHING LESS. Treating others as I wish to be treated. Smoke free. Shipped within 24 hrs of payment via USPS First Class.
