Van Horn was always fascinated by the automobiles of yesteryear and opened the museum in 1983. Three large buildings were filled with some of the oldest commercial-type vehicles, including a 1912 Saurer that was believed to be the only one in existence. There was also a 1918 GMC circus truck with a working calliope. With a collection of 60 automobiles dating back to 1906, only one was older than 1930. Over the course of 30 years, 208 trucks pre-dating 1930 made their way through his museum.
