Description: This is a group of 11 submarine launch envelopes collected by a relative that worked as a draftsman at the Portsmouth (Kittery, Maine) Navy Yard. They were pasted into a scrapbook, so there is damage / paste marks on the back sides. By no means pristine, but still very interesting historical collectibles. Mermaid and other interesting cachets on face. History of just one of the subs, the Grayling: She completed seven war patrols in the following 20 months, and is credited with the sinking of over 20,000 tons of Japanese merchant shipping and warships. Grayling received six battle stars for her World War II service. She was declared lost with all hands in September 1943. Sad.The Flying Fish had multiple important war service patrols and was one of these that survived the war. Use the close-up feature for a thorough examination.
