Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! This is a FINE example of a unit logo patch for 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company of Marine Forces Atlantic. These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Recon Marines are, of course, the elite of the elite! And Force Recon cranks it up a notch even further! The scuba diver, pathfinder torch, and full jump wings on the patch symbolize the deep reconnaissance capability made available to the force commander (in this case, MARFORLANT) by Force Recon. The units trace their heritage back to the famed amphibious reconnaissance units of WWII. Don’t believe 2nd Force Recon officially deployed to Vietnam as a unit, but it’s a safe bet that Marines from the company served individual tours of duty “in-country.” In 1990, the unit deployed for Operation Desert Storm under I MEF command. And of course, 2nd Force Recon Marines have deployed numerous times in the past few years in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom! Recent Decades: In 2006, 2nd Force Recon Co was deactivated, and most of its platoons were absorbed into the new Marine Corps Special Operations Command! Two other platoons went to 2nd Recon Battalion of 2nd MarDiv. But just two years later, in a December 2008 ceremony at Camp Lejeune, “Force Reconnaissance Company” was officially activated as part of 2nd Recon Battalion. Their numbers have since increased back to full strength, and operational control has shifted back to II MEF. Force Recon lives again! This is a BRAND NEW and UNUSED patch.
