Description: This listing is more aimed for those who seek to preserve history almost lost to time. Now found within the folds of modern marketplaces, I attempt to find as much information about their service, along with photos, obituaries, any other information pertaining to the individual. My hope is the buyer of this item will take the due-diligence to keep the veteran's memory alive and preserve their documents and items as long as they can. May God bless those past and present who sacrifice so much for us, and may their sacrifice never be in vain. This is the Army Good Conduct Medal that is named to Jerome Martin Van Veghel. (1923-2021) He was born on February 20, 1923 in West Allis, Wisconsin. He remained in West Allis, going to the West Allis High School before registering for the draft on June 30, 1942. He completed four years of high school before enlisting on January 18, 1943 into the US Army. He was shipped to the European Theater of WWII to England. There is a note saying he has a specialty in using 40MM anti-aircraft batteries, perhaps he helped England with battling the constant German bombardments of London or other cities, as after The Blitz there were a few bombing campaigns until May 1944. He was sent to the hospital on April 1944 for Cellulitis from an unspecified serpent or insect. Shortly after he landed on Omaha beach on the second day of the operation. He participated in the march of the Liberation of Paris. He also participated in the Ardennes Offensive, better known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and awarded this Good Conduct Medal. He married Dorothy K Lajsic on July 13, 1946. He had children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who are survived by him in death. He participated in the Honor Flight to Washington DC, where the government would fly veterans of WWII to see the various memorials made in honor of their service, and pay them the respect they deserve for their sacrifice. He remained in Wisconsin until he death on November 29, 2021. He was 98 years old. The medal is in good condition. Shipped with USPS Ground Advantage. International Shipping and combined shipping is offered.
