US WW1 USMC Marine Corps M1912 Private Purchase M1911 Pistol Holster. Modified.

Description: For sale here is what i believe to be a US Pre WW1 USMC Marine Corps Private Purchase M1912 Holster for the M1911 Pistol. There are no maker or inspector marks that i can find on this holster. The holster has a period embossed USMC oval on the flap. The holster has been modified for a cut out at the top front, and the lower closure stud appears to have been neatly removed. Interestingly, there is a stud on the upper hanger frog for keeping the flap up. The lower rear of the holster has also has slots cut for a leather thong tie down. There is no swivel at the top of the holster, the whole of the upper flap is a separately applied piece, and there is no strap holder on the center back. This is a baffling piece. The belt hook is steel, and the brass stud and rivets are dark with patina and verdigris. The leather feels a bit thinner than other M1913 holsters that i have owned. However, the leather is supple and feels great. All of the stitching is intact and strong. This is an OLD holster, and everything is period done. Maybe this was specially made for an old quick draw cowboy who found himself in the Marines! Please see my other eBay store at Cadencemilitaria2 for more great items.
