Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful Wave Crest Art Glass medium size Rectangular Box by the C. F. Monroe Co., c. 1900. Measures 4" high, 5 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" deep. Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then decorated. Originally called "Opal Ware", this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was then purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This box features soft pale pink iridized hand painted medallions with pink and white jewels. Top is decorated with a large center medallion with unusual floral design in center with white jewels. The box is fitted with a decorative gilt metal band. Unlined. This lovely box is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn. Illustrated on page 85 of the book "Wave Crest: The Glass of C. F. Monroe" by Wilfred R. Cohen. Weighs 1.6 pounds.
