Description: Description: SPECIES :Papilio polyxenes (Male black swallowtail), a Florida Butterfly in the family of Papilionidae. Specimen is unmounted and comes in a paper envelope with full collection data. It has been in a smoke free, climate controlled storage. It is time to let someone else enjoy these beautiful extras from my collection. I was a younger butterfly collector in the 1970’s and 1980’s. There were many fields and meadows filled with wildflowers. Native butterflies were plentiful. Now, all of my favorite collecting sites are gone. They have been replaced with parking lots, roads, and new homes. Butterflies are much harder to find in Florida with so much over-development. The first set of pictures shows wings closed and collection data of each species. You get the exact specimen shown. Also for each species, an extra photo has been added to show the butterfly wings spread. This "spread" specimen is not shipped, for display only. Check the internet for the most recent procedure to spread the wings. If you have any questions or need more pictures - please email me.
