With 18 charming maps with decorative title boxes which seem to have been engraved specifically for this Italian version of Buffier. These include a unique Capt. Cook map which shows Australia still connected to van Diemen's Land (island), plus a map of the Americas (also a world map) showing California as a prominent island. It seems that many of these maps were executed specifically for this work and are variants of other similar Buffier gazetteers produced in other countries such as France, Germany, Holland, etc. Book is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Binding gently age worn but still appealing, couple short slices in the vellum on the front cover, vellum soiled but still supple, remains overall very attractive as an object. Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A rare 18th century geography book which has been taken care of but may/ does not look like new. Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this gazetteer as it survives.
