Description: I am offering this flag in the hopes that it will find it's way to where it should be. I feel like I am on "Hallowed Ground". It is a Dept. of Army Flag with the honoree listed on the label Robert L Nunes Sent to Wilford R Nunes in Jacksonville, Illinois. It searching, I found that Robert Lee Nunes was a PFC who is buried in Lorraine France. He died in 1945 in France during WWII at the age of 19. This Flag was evidently sent to his parents honoring his service. The box was opened when I got it, But looks like the flag wasn't removed. I took enough of the flag out to find the lead weighted grommets, and the Official Marking and size of 5' x 9'6 in. I didn't unfold it all the way, but it is a 48 Star Quality flag with vibrant color, and no damage from pests. The postmark is 1958, so it may have been sent at a later date. It is humbling to realize that there is probably a reason it was left in the box. I don't know when it was opened, but I hope someone will get this flag that can either use it to remember Mr. Nunes Story, or to properly honor his service and the sacrifice he made for all of us.
