This is a machinist's tool, but I can tell you, from personal experience, that a 24" blade s equally useful for woodworking. These are not only great for measuring stock, but for checking flatness of hand-planed boards. A 24" blade is also useful for checking the flatness of plane soles. You can run Starrett heads on this with no problem. This will ship in a hard-sided box with "FRAGILE" stickers on the outside.
