Description: 800x600 PLEASE READ SHIPPING DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE BUYING! To learn more about us please click on our profile Turin School "Regiments 'Cavalleggeri di Sua Maesta' and 'Savoia Cavalleria' / Kingdom of Sardinia" According to our permanent advisor, well-known Italian military historian and uniformologist Massimo Fiorentino, these two paintings are extremely rare representations of two famous cavalry regiments of the Kingdom of Sardinia: On the left: the Guards Cavalry regiment "Cavalleggeri di Sua Maesta" (His Majesty's Light Cavalry) formed in 1689, disbanded in 1821 On the right: "Savoia Cavalleria", formed in 1692, still existent as 3rd Cavalry Regiment Both formations are shown here in uniforms corresponding to the regulation of the period between 1774 and 1784. On each of the paintings we see the figure of the regiment's commander. If we see these regiments in 1784 (last year of the aforementioned period), we could assume that the rider receiving the parade on the left painting, is Guiseppe Amadeo Sallier de la Tour, marchese di Cordon (1732-1820; see our image nr. 22 with his biography), who was just promoted to colonel with appointment to Commander of the "Cavalleggeri di Sua Maesta" (July 13, 1784). Who commanded this regiment before him, could tell us a specialist in the history of the Sardinian Army. Or is it King Vittorio Amadeo III (chief-proprietor of this regiment) himself? On various portraits of the King we see him depicted in the uniform of the "Cavalleggeri di Sua Maesta" (see our image). Concerning the regiment "Savoia Cavalleria" on the right - we suppose to see here Colonel Baron Carlo de Meuthon di Larnay who commanded this regiment between 1776 and 1787 (see our image). *We are very grateful to Signore Massimo Fiorentino for his generous help.
