He was born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, and trained as a woodblock printmaker before leaving for Osaka to become a painter. He specialized in bewitching paintings of beautiful women and was highly regarded as a member of the Osaka School of Japanese painting. This print is one of his few woodblock prints, and was made by Seitaro Nezu, a wealthy man, from an original work. The motif of this painting is Kabuki, and Tsunetomi also left several other paintings with the same motif. The condition isn't good, with stains, fold marks, and loss at the corners.
