Shangaan amethyst is the trade name for beautifully distinct smoky amethyst crystals mined by hand using only shovels and throw bars by the Shangaan tribal people of Southern Africa. Shangaan crystals contain small red hematite flake inclusions and they only come from the Chibuku mine in the Zambezi Valley, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe near the border with Mozambique. Shangaan amethyst is a relatively new find just appearing on the commercial market in the last few years. This to die for specimen is perfect for the scepter lover and measures 2.64 inches long by 0.65 inches wide and weighs 19.9 grams.
