Description: Creative Assembly's long-running strategy series returns to the City of Seven Hills as gamers once again experience warfare and politics during the Iron Age in Total War: Rome II. Players can take control of nine different factions, including Rome, Macedon, Carthage, and Egypt, and then build a massive war machine to become the world's first great empire. Every faction also contains several families, and they each offer pros and cons in a variety of economic, military, and cultural categories. As always, the action is broken into turn-based empire-building and real-time combat.
A new graphics engine was designed to capture the beauty and grandeur of ancient cities and wilderness areas, while also conveying the feel of bloody battlefield clashes and intense naval combat. Beginning in 272 BCE, and taking place over roughly 300 years, the main single-player campaign finds gamers attempting to conquer 173 regions in 57 provinces, spanning from Portugal to Afghanistan. Players can zoom in to watch individual units on battlefields that contain thousands of separate combatants, and armies and navies can be ordered into aggressive or defensive stances at any time. The decisions gamers make have consequences later in the campaign, and players are free to pursue any type of rule they please, from peaceful democracy to autocratic dictatorship.
Total War: Rome II has added a variety of new battle types, including siege battles, river battles, ambushes, and port sieges. The game also includes revamped diplomacy settings designed to make the decisions of AI factions more realistic, while the political system has been completely redesigned. Players can align themselves with various rival parties within factions or pit ruling monarchs against noble families, with political power ultimately based on the actions and accomplishments of those aligned with each party. Multiplayer fans can clash against each other in one of nine different battle types, and the laddered matchmaking system is designed to ensure that gamers only play similarly skilled opponents.
