Broad shoulders, pinched waist, daring tailoring – Mugler cut fronts, backs and sleeves in vertical sections to take out bulk rather than using darts. It’s extra work and extra cost that makes clothing sleek but functional – like a narrow sleeve where you can still bend your elbow or lift your arm. The piecing results in the topstitched fan pattern created by the seams in back – it’s one of my favorite Mugler signature features and one I look for when called on to authenticate unlabeled garments. That fan tells me extraordinary care went into design and fabrication. M-Star silver star snaps down the front, at the cuffs and flap pockets, sharp and exaggerated notch collar and fully lined. The fabric tag has been cut, but it feels like a wool blend gabardine, lightweight. Fully lined and the lining is also complete and intact. It is clean and completely intact. No damage. Unscented. Not a bit of stretch. None. So know your numbers. Jacket measured across the back. 42” around underarms; 34” around waist; 42” around hem; 24” from nape to hem. 19” from one shoulder seam to the other and sleeves are 22” long.
