Description: Theodore Roosevelt and William H. Taft – desirable and harder to find dual signed commission for an officer. The oversized 16 x 21 document commissions James L. Young Jr as a Captain in the infantry on July 19, 1906. There is overall toning from storage and then framing. TR’s signature is somewhat faded but easily visible and large. Taft’s is darker and in a finer, smaller hand than TR’s. Overall maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10 for document condition and the TR a 5/6 out of 10 on the signature, although a large, distinct signature with strong articulation of each letter. Dual signed documents by a president and future president are particularly desirable. The TR-Taft combination are becoming harder to find, and of course more interesting than many because of their eventual rivalry. (A quick search shows a Captain James L. Young formally of the 47th NY Infantry to have died in battle with the 54th Pioneer Infantry. Young served in the Mexican border conflict. An American Legion Post in Brooklyn NY is named in his honor.) Postage on this is higher than normal, it is oversized and will ship flat. This item is offered by Custodians of History, Inc.
