Art by Michael McInnerney, who said of the design "I have this memory snapshot, back in '68, sitting in Pete T's kitchen, showing him the finished artwork for the Tommy cover and trying to find a way of bringing God into the cover copy. The Indian word for God is 'Avatar' and, for us, his name was Meher Baba and the cover credit list was where we put him. Somehow, giving God a job description on the album, juxtaposing the ordinary with the extraordinary, seemed appropriate to the project. It was a contrast that wove its way throughout the Opera. The work took two to three months to complete (According to Pete T. - 'Mike worked constantly under a single ordinary lightbulb. He entertained and pontificated from his drawing board at one side of the room, stopping only to eat...Behind him on the wall was a picture of the young, craggy-looking Meher Baba...As an illustrator, he was constantly up against impossible deadlines, and in the case of Tommy, he worked indefatigably to produce the cover art even though the actual album completion was continually delayed by technical and financial problems.'). During that time, I had the feeling that I was working on a special project. " As Townshend put it - "The poetic mysticism of his work, its simplicity and bleakness, mirrored the music precisely. As ever, Mike's response was explosively positive."Produced by The WHO and Record Art and distributed by Music Art in the early 90s. Obtained from the original distributor in 2001. Approx 32x22". In that time I have amassed a collection of items like none other and am now offering a small portion of my items to the public. What you are bidding on is an item that was actually signed by the band / artist and it is as real as it gets (unlike most of what I see online). If you are looking to purchase something authentic - here is your chance. It will pass any authentication process you wish and is as rare as it gets. I will not consider offers lower than the offers I have already received and I update the pricing as offers come in. Please use the auction page to place bids / offers. If you are looking for a bargain - with all due respect, this auction is not for you. My items are extremely rare and worth every bit of what I am asking. If you are looking to purchase something authentic, that will only increase in value over time... here is your opportunity! I try and provide as much information as possible regarding each item and most everything I have I have actual dates and venues they were signed. I went so far as to literally catalog everything I collected at a particular concert that evening or following day of the event, going so far as to keep an actual journal for over 30 years with meticulous notes. I look forward to finding good homes for these pieces... It breaks my heart to sell, but I must part with some of them as I have literally run out of storage and refuse to rent a larger unit. All of these items have been stored in a temperature controlled storage facility and the framed items were custom framed by a professional framing company to museum quality standards using Acid Free materials and UV / Museum protective glass. Shipping charges cover all packing materials including shipping with tracking and insurance for the full purchase price. Every effort is made to ensure your item gets to you in perfect condition with extreme precautions taken using bubble wrap and proper shipping boxes used. The insurance / tracking numbers are provided immediately after shipping in the extremely rare event any damage should occur in transit. Thank you for your interest.... It's been a life long passion of mine preserving these items and the kind words are much appreciated.
