Description: In the late Sixties and early Seventies, the sports card collecting hobby began to blossom, although it was still pretty small compared to today. Small newsletters, often growing out of hobby dealer catalogues, began to show up and they became the primary way the few scattered collectors out there could keep in touch with one another. While crude compared to the websites and other forms of communication we have today, these early publications were vital to the growth of the hobby. The early publications actually pre-dated the card shows we all took for granted for so many years! The best of these publications was The Trader Speaks, a monthly digest-sized magazine published from 1968 to the early 1980's. It featured short, informative articles about old and unusual sets, and it featured display and classified ads featuring prices that could make you weep today. This landmark publication is highly collectible today. Here we have the May 1972 issue of The Trader Speaks! It's 40 pages and features short write ups on the planned New York Convention, current baseball news, the M101-5 Sporting News set, Tip-Top Bread cards, Topps Test sets, a collector of the month profile, and lots of random stuff for sale. If you collect old hobby publications, this is good stuff. Condition is nice (see scans). This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping will be adjusted for multiple purchases.
