The life story of Medal of Honor recipient Roy Benavidez. As a Mexican-American kid in South Texas, he fought poverty and prejudice. As a Green Beret in Vietnam, he went back to an ambush site to rescue fallen comrades over and again until all were safe, an action for which he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Then, in a battle with the bureaucracy, he spent 12 years searching for the evidence that qualified him for the MOH, tracking down the few surviving witnesses and overcoming the secrecy that had surrounded the mission. Since receiving the award from President Reagan in 1981, Roy has continued to fight in defense of his and other veterans' rights, making headlines in 1983 confronting the Social Security Administration.
