The author, writing under the pseudonym Nine Men, argued that the Company's trade restrictions were hindering population growth and economic development. The remonstrance also protested against the arbitrary rule of Director-General Stuyvesant. The book provides a valuable firsthand account of the early history of New Netherland and the Dutch West India Company.
