The Representation of New Netherland (Classic Reprint)

Description: This book is the first printed account of the early history of New Netherland and the acts of the Dutch West India Company. Published in 1650, it was based on the author's journal and contained a remonstrance against the policies of the Company in the colony. The author, writing under the pseudonym Nine Men, argued that the Company's trade restrictions were hindering population growth and economic development. The remonstrance also protested against the arbitrary rule of Director-General Stuyvesant. The book provides a valuable firsthand account of the early history of New Netherland and the Dutch West India Company.
