Description: Full Title: The Personal Memoirs Of Joffre: Field Marshal of the French Army (Volume I only) Condition Continued: A small number of the bottom edges are cut a little shorter than the majority of them. The book is pretty solidly bound. I saw only one instance of a little space between facing pages, but only over the top quarter inch (that is off the top edge). Both of these pages are tightly bound from top to bottom. The covers are tightly bound, no issues at the junctures of either. The interior of the book is in very nice shape. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through I haven't found any conspicuous soiling. All of the illustrations and maps are in excellent condition. There is very little creasing, the paper just below the tip of the top corner of eight consecutive pages was accidentally turned in (in other words it's not a placeholder crease). I flattened it out, there's a little crease there, obviously very far from the print. One of the double-paged maps has this tiny crease just below each of its top corners. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And Mr. McCloy's signature is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. Parker Brothers, New York, 1932. Hardcover. Written by General Joseph Joffre. Translated by Colonel T. Bentley Mott. Appendices by Colonel S. J. Lowe. Stated First Edition. This book was previously owned by the former Assistant Secretary Of War and US High Commissioner to Postwar Germany, John J. McCloy. He signed his name in pencil on the first front end paper. This is Volume I only of a Two Volume set. Volume I has five illustrations including the frontispiece. It also has eleven maps, eight of which are double pages. 'Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre was a French general who served as Commander-in-Chief of French forces on the Western Front from the start of World War I until the end of 1916. He is best known for regrouping the retreating allied armies to defeat the Germans at the strategically decisive First Battle of the Marne in September 1914.'
