Description: This machine is made by the Marchant Calculating Machine Co, which was founded in 1911 by Rodney and Alfred Marchant in Oakland California. The company first built mechanical and later electromechanical calculators which had a reputation for their reliability. This particular machine called “The Marrhant” is made out of metal and contains a hand crank, slider at the bottom, 9 digits at the top, and is mounted on a solid oak platform. The plate on the machine reads “The Marrhant manufactured by Marchant Calculating Machine Co. Inc. Oakland, CAL. Patented June 6, 1911, Feb 22,1915." The back side is marked No 0333. This calculator comes with a complete 37 page Instruction Book details general operating instructions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The book details how to calculate percentage, pro-rations, interest and multiplication of two rates. In addition taxes, tax extension, chain discounts, foreign exchange and engineering calculations are explained. This instruction book is an antique of its own! This Marchant vintage calculating machine is in good condition. There are some scratch marks on the machine on front. Some of the paint has worn away on the numbers but they are still legible. The wooden platform is slightly worn in the front. The words on the plate located on the oak platform are worn away on the right side. Machine is 8" W x 12" L x 5.5" H
