Description: ' The High Steppers were a studio band that recorded for Crown Records. Crown Records was a record company and dime-store label that existed from 1930 to 1933 in New York City. Crown was started by the Plaza Music Company after it was excluded from the merger which resulted in the American Record Corporation. The office was located at 10 West 20th Street, New York, and had recording studios at 330 West 42nd Street. This was a depression era budget label. Known as the label offering "Two Hits for Two Bits" proudly printed on their sleeves, Crown's discs sold for 25 cents. This house band was led by Adrian Schubert. Schubert was the leader of the Crown house bands in the 1930's depression era. Schubert engaged such well known musicians as Mannie Klein (trumpet), Miff Mole (trombone), Tony Parenti (saxophone) and Larry Binyon (saxophone, clarinet) (and on some sides the clarinetist may be Benny Goodman). Noted alto sax / clarinet player, Andy Sanella was also present in the recording sessions. Russ Carlson is the featured piano player of many of these sides. Billy Cody, Scrappy Lambert , Elmer Feldkamp and Dick Robertson handle the vocals.
