Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Author David Robinson, who is 28 and single, grew up in Syracuse, N.Y., where he was an active Boy Scout; graduated (English) from Middlebury College and took film and writing courses at San Francisco State College. For several years, while doing freelance magazine writing on the side, he lived in a cabin in Vermont cutting trails and mapping historic Mount Independence. For seven years, currently with Winthrop Publishers, he has been active in textbook publishing, both in editing, book design and as production director. Dave, who is also a singer and who raises dogs, in the course of his homestead research visited with homesteaders in a number of eastern states and corresponded with homesteaders in almost every area of the country and Canada. The bulk of his information came from New England. Dave currently is looking for land in New England with the view of later building his own home there. Artist Paula Hartford Savastano, raised in Sherborn, Mass., at age 13 moved to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where she graduated from high school in 1962. She attended Colby College and The Museum School in Boston until opting for marriage and going back to Maine. Recently Paula returned with her husband and three children from three years of home- steading in Nova Scotia to their present home in East Boothbay, where she is working on two children's stories and an account of the family's Nova Scotia experience. She is as much involved with music as with art, and is an active member of two Canadian music associations. If homesteading interests you, this book is the indispensable guide. These points and hundreds more are outlined fully. How do I decide where to homestead?Should I seek bare land or a house, too? Can I make a public Homestead land claim? What will it save if I build myself? How much cash do I need to get started? What about group homesteads or communes? Should I try livestock or just a garden? Will I still need a cash income later? What are country neighbors like? Can I get into homesteading gradually?
