Description: Please note that we have used an asterisk * in the listing below so that we could mention another model and not inadvertently keyword spam Ebay's search mode. Thank you for your understanding. This receiver is a Ten-Tec RX-350D manufactured here in the good ole USA by Ten-Tec in Sevierville, Tennessee. Ten-Tec corporate name is derived from Tennessee Technology and is a manufacturer of outstanding shortwave and amateur equipment. In fact, Ten-Tec's reputation for its manufactured products is outstanding....this RX-350D being one such achievement. Please note that this is the "D" version of the RX-350 which is later manufacture and the only difference from earlier non-D units is the addition of the 12 KHz IF output to use for DRM decoding. The firmware shown on the boot screen was ver 1.15 b14 08.02.2002 Ten-Tec produced these receivers for about 3 years from 2002 thru late 2004 selling for $1199 without any options. If purchased in today's depreciated dollars, the cost would be $2,134 in 2024. Despite being a "used" piece of gear, this receiver is in wonderful overall cosmetic condition. You will see a couple of very minor marks on the covers, but this unit is in above average cosmetic condition. Please look at our pictures for specific cosmetic condition. The RX-350D has been fully tested and works beautifully as designed by the Ten-Tec folks. The sensitivity and operation is just fantastic. In fact, we have sold several of these receivers on Ebay over the years and the more time we spend with them, the more we have come to love the operation and features. This is a fairly scarce receiver and it is not commonly offered for sale here on Ebay. We do not think that this was a high production receiver and we infrequently have one of these to offer for sale. The RX-350D comes with the following items: Copy of the user manual Universal Radio catalog sale page Color sale brochure Monitoring Times review - July 2002 Passport (to World Band Radio) review - 2003 Passport review 2005 Passport review 2006 WRTH (World Radio & TV Handbook) review 2003 Popular Communications review - July 2002 AC power cord CD with all the above items plus more documents totaling about 185MB of files. We do not offer these documents for sale separately and so this CD is free with the purchase of the receiver. While this RX-350D does not offer all the features as found on the Ten-Tec RX*340 and is not a mil-spec designed unit, it is a very nice DSP unit and one that we call the "budget RX*340". Again, we are not stating that the specs match the RX*340, but we are comparing the variety of DSP functions such as filters, noise control, and such things that enable this receiver to rise above the average and typical HF receiver. The RX-350D was considered a mid-priced DSP receiver which was remarkable considering that most DSP receivers during that time leaned toward the 2K and above range. It is no longer being manufactured and is only available used on such selling forums as Ebay. In the advertising literature, Ten-Tec described the RX-350 as a "full-fledged mid-price HF DSP receiver designed for today's demanding shortwave listener". Operating this 350 is an absolute delight. In fact, the performance of this model continues to astound us and we have handled a lot of high end receivers over the years. While the DSP is used in a variety of functions such as auto-notch filtering and noise reduction, the thing that most pleases us is the DSP in the IF filter system. Most receivers come with a bandwidth or two and offer additional bandwidth filters for extra money that can sometimes add significantly to the purchase price. However, the 350D uses one rotating knob to select any of 34 filter bandwidths between 300 Hz and 8 KHz. During use, we would normally band scan on the 350D using a medium filter of around 4 or 5 KHz. Upon hearing a station, we would either widen the bandwidth to improve fidelity or narrow it to cut down on side channel interference. Since rotating the knob easily varies the bandwidth, the user has fantastic control of the bandwidth that is no harder to operate than the receiver's volume control. There are some additional outstanding features of the RX-350D. One of these is the obviously oversize LCD display. Users will notice large frequency numbers on the readout and a good contrast to the screen allowing for great viewing from a variety of angles and lighting conditions. Also, found on this display is a full time time/date clock that is second to none and a sweep spectrum graph that runs along the bottom of the receiver and allows the operator to see band activity above and below the the signal currently being heard. The operator can choose any one of 8 sweep ranges for the graph. If you have ever seen one of these spectrum graphs, you will appreciate how such a device will help you locate signals up and down the band to compliment tuning of transmitted frequencies. If you like to store your frequencies in memory, you will be thrilled with the RX-350D. The receiver contains 8 separate banks of 128 memories for a total of 1024 memories. All of the memories can be alpha tagged with up to 16 characters and instantly recalled. Such comprehensive memory facilities exceeds many scanning receivers and this gives the user additional flexibility when storing and tuning into amateur nets, favorite stations, or "watched" frequencies such as military channels or pirate station frequencies. The RX-350D has a sync detector, and while it works okay, the sync sometimes during fading will lose lock. Actually, we found that this receiver is best used with ECSS. Using exalted carrier selectable sideband, the receiver is very stable and you can listen to programs using either upper or lower sideband without any distortion. Since the receiver operates so well using this mode and with the addition of the wealth of bandwidths, you can really avoid any side channel interference that comes your way and minimize the distortion from signal fading. In our opinion, this is a powerful set of features for this receiver that is not common on other receivers. This receiver has a variety of other features that is probably best for us to list. The manual to use this receiver is well written and goes over most of these features in good detail: Modes of AM, SSB, CW, and FM AM Synchronous detector that is sideband selectable Coverage from 100 KHz to 30 MHz AGC Auto notch filter Noise reduction DSP platform 12/24 hour full time clock with date Passband tuning 34 selectable filter bandwidths from 300 Hz to 8 KHz (FM is 15 KHz) Oversize VFO knob with adjustable spin resistance Tilt bail Dual VFO's Band selector fast up/down keys Variable tuning steps Squelch AF/RF gain with visual readout on the display Timer Dial lock S-meter on the LCD display Headphones, line out, and external speaker jacks Receiver mute (to use with a transmitter) Serial interface for computer control Operates on 120/240 VAC or 12-15 VDC In operation during testing, we connected the receiver to our favorite speaker....a Sounds Sweet. The audio output of the on board speaker is as good or better than most communications receivers, but cannot be compared to what can be heard with an external speaker. Using the Sounds Sweet speaker, we were able to tune into several stations and then tuned to listen to outstanding regional music heard on Radio Romania. It is obvious that the engineers at Ten-Tec did not shortchange the audio amp and users of this receiver will experience great sound from this DSP receiver when connected to an external speaker.
